World Economic Forum Singapore 13-16 May 2021

Due to the high number of COVID-19 infections in Switzerland, the World Economic Forum meeting, which is held every year in Davos, in 2021 will take place in Singapore, from May 13 to May 16. This is the second time in the history of the Forum that the event will not be held in Switzerland, and it will be the first time ever that it will be hosted in Asia. The South-East Asian city-state, thanks to the excellent management of the pandemic in last months, has been considered the most appropriate location to bring together for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic the political leaders of the world, together with economists, journalists and intellectuals, who will discuss the global economic recovery and the important challenges the world will face. The meeting will also have a virtual component to allow a wider participation. The founder of the WEF, Klaus Schwab, said that the 2021 summit will be “of crucial importance to address how we can recover together”, adding that “public-private cooperation is needed more than ever to rebuild trust and address the fault lines that emerged in 2020”.

The summit will be a valuable opportunity for the tourism and events sector in Singapore, but it will also be a test case for the effectiveness of virus containment measures in an event of this relevance.

From 25 to 29 January 2021, during the traditional Davos Week, the WEF organized the “Davos Agenda Week”, a series of virtual events attended by Heads of State and Government from all over the world, representatives of civil society, economists and youth representatives from every continent.
