Cultural Cooperation

The cultural ties between Italy and Singapore, which have matured over time also due to the City-State's desire to increasingly gain recognition as a cosmopolitan and avant-garde reality in the artistic and cultural fields, represent an important aspect of the bilateral cooperation between our two countries.

Our fashion, cinema, art, photography, design and cuisine are now an integral part of the local cultural landscape. The Embassy, in the absence of an Italian Cultural Institute, directly takes care of the promotion of Italian culture in Singapore.

Starting from 2022, all activities have returned to the presence allowing the organization of multiple events.

Extraordinary was the arrival in Singapore of the first stage of the exhibition "The Grand Italian Vision: The Farnesina Collection" hosted from 7 to 25 February 2023 at the Arts House and in the Sala Italia of the Embassy which recounted the history of Italian art from the twentieth century to today through 71 works selected by Achille Bonito Oliva.

The Italian Festival, the first integrated promotion event in Singapore, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), Italian companies and numerous commercial partners, was also very successful. Over 50 events organized in the City-State between May and June dedicated to the excellence of Made in Italy that make Italy the protagonist in Singapore.

The Italian Film Festival and the Week of Italian Cuisine, now in their twentieth and seventh editions respectively, are among the longest-running and most popular initiatives for the Singaporean public.

The Embassy also actively participates in the cultural initiatives promoted in Singapore by supporting Italian artists.

At the Singapore Film Festival, the most famous film festival in South-East Asia since 1987 in which over 300 films from all over the world participate annually, Italy was excellently represented by directors such as Luca Guadagnino and Matteo Garrone.

Furthermore, the EU Film Festival, which reached its thirtieth edition in 2022, welcomes one of the Italian cinematographic successes among the 23 films selected each year.

Also in the photography sector, the Italian Embassy supported the participation of contemporary Italian artists in the Singapore International Photography Festival.

For the first time, Italy took part in Singapore Design Week 2022 and in Art Week 2022, precious opportunities for Italian designers and artists to participate in over hundreds of events, taking the opportunity to learn more about Singapore market and make known one’s works.
