Economic Missions

On 23 November 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Di Maio had a videoconference meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan to take stock of the health emergency caused by Covid-19, to present the Italian Presidency of the G20 and discuss cooperation in the digital field.

On 19 December 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Di Maio received his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan in Rome, with whom he had the opportunity to discuss economic cooperation, the promotion of investments and innovation, Eurasian connectivity and Italian relations. ASEAN.

from 14 to 16 May 2019, the twelfth edition was held of IMDEX “Asia Pacific's Premier International Maritime Defense Show", the most important event on the global calendar on safety in the maritime sector of South East Asia. Important Italian companies (Leonardo, Fincantieri, Elettronica, DRASS, GEM and Ferretti D&S) were present at the event, which saw the participation of about 230 exhibitors from all over the world, flanked and supported by AIAD. A large Italian delegation led by Admiral Valter Girardelli, Chief of the Navy General Staff, and Admiral Chief Inspector Matteo Bisceglia, Director of Naval Armaments of the Navy, took part in the event. Admiral Girardelli had the opportunity to have numerous bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the other participating countries and, in particular, with the Chief of the Singapore Navy.

On 9 May 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, went on a mission to Singapore, a visit preceded by a stop in Vietnam. Minister Moavero held meetings at the highest level: with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, and with Ambassador Chio Kiat Ow. He took the opportunity to focus on the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries and again illustrated the Italian potential in the field of investments.

On 25 and 26 March 2019, the mission to Singapore of the Minister of Economy and Finance Giovanni Tria took place. The Minister, in addition to having an interview with his Singaporean counterpart, he met the highest representatives of the MAS (Monetary Authority of Singapore) and the heads of the Sovereign Funds Temasek and GIC. During the talks, the Minister presented the numerous investment opportunities existing in Italy, encouraging his interlocutors to also plan a visit to Italy to study the various opportunities in more depth.

On 7 and 8 February 2018, the mission to Singapore of the then Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano took place. During his visit, the Minister met his counterpart Balakrishnan, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang, and the Heads of Temasek and GIC Sovereign Funds and the Singapore Economic Development Board. In the talks that have taken place, Minister Alfano has repeatedly reiterated the attention paid by Italy to encouraging investment opportunities for foreign funds, also as a tool for strengthening bilateral relations.

From 22 to 25 May 2016, the State visit of President Tony Tan to Italy was an opportunity to give further impetus to economic relations: in fact, President Tan was accompanied by the Minister of Industry and Commerce Iswaran and by a large entrepreneurial delegation, which has participated in numerous events in various Italian cities, with the aim of promoting commercial relations, in particular with Italian SMEs.
