Social Assistance and Health Care

HEALTH CARE

The local health system does not provide any form of protection. Coverage of first aid services is also excluded, so we recommend that you get  a private health insurance, before departure, which ensures the coverage of medical expenses and the medical repatriation by air (or the transfer to another Country) of the patient.

ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE

The Consular Office can provide a subsidy to the Italian citizen permanently resident in its Consular district, registered with AIRE and who is in a situation of proven penury.

The granting of the subsidy is absolutely exceptional and occurs compatibly with the available funds recorded in the budget statements.

To the Italian citizen temporarily abroad and resident in Italy or in another consular district, who is facing unforeseen economic difficulties and who cannot avail himself of the help of family members or third parties (for example through companies authorized to transfer cash), a loan can be granted, which the concerned person undertakes to repay to the Treasury within 90 days.

The granting of the loan is subject to verification of the condition of economic difficulty of the fellow national and the inability to do so by family members required by law (pursuant to Article 433 of the Italian Civil Code).
