The Embassy of Italy’s “Sala Italia” has once again the prestige of hosting a unique exhibition, titled “Desiderium”, by Elena Lo Giudice, which was inaugurated on 29 May 2023.
The Italian visual artist, born in Hong Kong and currently living in Singapore, will be exhibiting a selection of her artworks until 9 June 2023 as part of the Italian Festival programme. The leitmotif – “Desiderium” – constitutes an ardent desire, especially a feeling of loss or grief for something lost. Indeed, Lo Giudice’s work is intrinsically characterized by the recurrent theme of the search for home, roots and cultural identity, which she aims at expressing through paintings and collages made of Japanese hand-made paper (washi) and photographs taken by herself. In particular, washi holds a special place in the artist’s creative process, as it was her preferred medium during her childhood and serves as a reminder of her imaginative wanderings as a young girl living in Singapore during the 1980s.
The visit hours to the exhibition are between 9.30 AM and 1 PM and between 2 PM and 5 PM on weekdays.
