Singapore, 18 December 2025 – La Grande Opera in Jazz, the concert by Italian pianist Danilo Rea, was held yesterday at the Victoria Concert Hall, marking a major cultural event dedicated to showcasing Italy’s musical heritage through a contemporary lens.
Organised by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore and produced by Associazione Globart, Saint Louis College of Music and Altenburg Arts, the initiative brought to a fitting close a year of celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic, cultural and economic relations between Italy and Singapore.
During the concert, Danilo Rea presented an original fusion of jazz and opera, reinterpreting iconic arias by Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti, in dialogue with historic recordings of legendary voices such as Maria Callas, Beniamino Gigli and Enrico Caruso, accompanied by archival visual materials and multimedia projections.
A graduate of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, Danilo Rea is regarded as one of the most authoritative Italian pianists on the international jazz scene. His career has seen him collaborate with numerous world-renowned artists and perform at leading theatres and festivals worldwide.
On the eve of the concert, 16 December, Maestro Rea was a guest on Melanie Oliveiro’s radio programme ‘Destination Anywhere’ on cna938, where he discussed his artistic journey and the concept behind La Grande Opera in Jazz, an internationally acclaimed production that has already toured dozens of countries.
