Singapore, 12 February 2026 – The Italian Embassy in Singapore hosted an initiative on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on 11 February and established by the United Nations in 2015, with the aim of promoting the role of women in scientific research, innovation, and technological development.
The event brought together three leading figures from the international scientific community: Professor Giorgia Pastorin (National University of Singapore), Dr Giulia Varsano (Nuevocor), and Associate Professor Yu Jun Tan (National University of Singapore). The speakers, working in the fields of pharmaceuticals, bionanotechnology, biomedicine, and bioengineering, presented the latest research developments and their economic and societal impact.
In his opening remarks, the Italian Ambassador to Singapore, Dante Brandi, highlighted that “female participation and leadership in science represent a key strength of bilateral scientific and technological cooperation, which in turn is among the most significant pillars of the excellent relations between Italy and Singapore.”
The initiative – attended by representatives from academia, research institutions, and industry engaged in promoting STEM disciplines – is part of the Embassy’s ongoing activities aimed at strengthening science diplomacy and fostering collaboration between Italy and Singapore in high-knowledge and high-tech sectors.
