Singapore, 13 February 2026 – Dance as a space for cultural dialogue and international collaboration was at the heart of “Lives on Pointe: Italian ballet dancer Marco Carrer in conversation with the Singapore ballet scene”, an event hosted by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore.
The talk featured Marco Carrer, a young Italian talent of international acclaim, Myrna Kamara, a principal dancer and global artist, and Chihiro Uchida, Artistic Director of Kadence Ballet Academy, the partner of the initiative. The discussion explored the personal journeys of these artists, reflecting on the challenges they have faced in the demanding world of ballet and sharing their perspective on artistic mobility and the future of dance in a rapidly evolving cultural landscape. At the same time, the event provided a space to reflect on the development of dance in Singapore and Southeast Asia, highlighting the region’s growing artistic energy, its challenges, and its potential for growth.
The initiative is part of the broader commitment of Italian cultural diplomacy to promote dance as a privileged area of exchange between Italy and Singapore. Following the collaboration carried out in 2025 between MOTUS Danza and LASALLE College of the Arts, 2026 will see new major initiatives, including the creative residency of choreographers Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi with T.H.E. Dance Company, as well as the participation of Professor Roberto Altamura and young Italian talents in international programs of advanced dance training.
In his speech, Ambassador Dante Brandi emphasized the strategic value of this cooperation:
“Ballet preserves an extraordinary tradition and continues to train exceptional talents, but today it must face profound transformations that require openness and international collaboration. The dialogue between Italy and Singapore fosters the contamination of experiences, skills, and artistic visions, contributing to strengthening a vibrant, contemporary cultural ecosystem capable of evolving.”
With Lives on Pointe, artistic cooperation between Italy and Singapore is confirmed as a dynamic space for exchange and shared projects, where dance becomes a tool for connection, growth, and collective vision.
