{"id":7777,"date":"2026-01-14T16:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T08:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambsingapore.esteri.it\/?p=7777"},"modified":"2026-01-14T17:11:39","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T09:11:39","slug":"obtaining-italian-citizenship-by-benefit-of-law-recent-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambsingapore.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/01\/obtaining-italian-citizenship-by-benefit-of-law-recent-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Acquisition of Citizenship by Benefit of Law: Recent Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<strong><a class=\"reset interactable cursor-pointer decoration-1 underline-offset-1 text-super hover:underline font-semibold\" href=\"https:\/\/documenti.camera.it\/leg19\/pdl\/pdf\/leg.19.pdl.camera.2750.19PDL0175990.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span class=\"text-box-trim-both\">2026 Budget Law<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Law of 30 December 2025) introduced changes to Article 4, paragraph 1-bis, letter b) of Law no. 91\/1992 on Italian citizenship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Parents\u2014if at least one is an Italian citizen by birth\u2014can now submit their declaration within\u00a0<strong>three years<\/strong>\u00a0(instead of one) from the child\u2019s birth, or from when the child\u2019s relationship to the Italian parent is legally recognized (including adoption).<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">These declarations are now\u00a0<strong>free of charge<\/strong>. This means the\u00a0<strong>\u20ac250 fee<\/strong>\u00a0previously required under Article 9-bis of Law no. 91\/1992\u00a0<strong>is no longer payable<\/strong>. The same exemption applies to the declarations under Decree-Law no. 36\/2025, which must be submitted by\u00a0<strong>31 May 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new rules apply\u00a0<strong>from 1 January 2026<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>do not have retroactive effect<\/strong>.
