{"id":8960,"date":"2026-07-14T16:34:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T08:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambsingapore.esteri.it\/?p=8960"},"modified":"2026-07-14T16:43:54","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T08:43:54","slug":"8960","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambsingapore.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/07\/8960\/","title":{"rendered":"Termination of validity of paper identity cards for travel abroad from August 3, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"93\" data-end=\"283\"><strong data-start=\"93\" data-end=\"115\">From 3 August 2026<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"121\" data-end=\"180\">paper Italian Identity Card (Carta d&#8217;Identit\u00e0 Cartacea)<\/strong> will no longer be valid for international travel, regardless of the expiry date indicated on the back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"365\"><strong data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"323\">Decree-Law No. 108 of 26 June 2026<\/strong> has introduced several important changes:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"367\" data-end=\"915\">\n<li data-section-id=\"173upv3\" data-start=\"367\" data-end=\"596\">The <strong data-start=\"373\" data-end=\"404\">paper Italian Identity Card<\/strong>, if still valid, may continue to be used as a means of identification when dealing with the Italian Public Administration and providers of public services, including Italian consular offices.<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"zixamf\" data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"915\">In cases of urgency, Italian municipalities may issue a <strong data-start=\"655\" data-end=\"717\">temporary identity document valid for international travel<\/strong>, which is non-renewable and valid for a maximum of six months. Travellers to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viaggiaresicuri.it\/find-country\/country\/SGP\">Singapore<\/a> are reminded that entry into the country requires a passport with at least six months&#8217; remaining validity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"1225\">For information on how to apply for the <strong data-start=\"957\" data-end=\"1022\">Electronic Identity Card (Carta d&#8217;Identit\u00e0 Elettronica \u2013 CIE)<\/strong> at the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ambsingapore.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/electronic-identity-card-cie\/\">dedicated section<\/a> of the Embassy&#8217;s website. Dedicated appointments are available for citizens who do not hold any other valid identity document.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1585\">Please also note that, <strong data-start=\"1250\" data-end=\"1270\">from 1 June 2026<\/strong>, Italian citizens residing abroad and registered with AIRE (Registry of Italians Resident Abroad) may apply for an <strong data-start=\"1390\" data-end=\"1424\">Electronic Identity Card (CIE)<\/strong> at any Italian municipality, as provided for by <strong data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1506\">Law No. 11 of 19 January 2026<\/strong>.
