In this conversation, DECK presents “Book of Days” as a starting point for a cross-cultural conversation between Singapore and Italy.
Featuring works by Singaporean artist Alvin Ng created during Radical Residency 2025 in Calabria, the programme explores how place, memory, and ancient knowledge shape contemporary artistic practice. The residency, developed in collaboration with Fotografia Calabria Festival and supported by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, marks a significant moment of international exchange.
The talk also situates Alvin’s experience alongside the practice of Italian artist Camilla Marrese, who joined DECK as an Artist-in Residence in January 2026 to present “Thinking like an Island”.
Together, their works offer insights into how artists navigate distance, cultural histories, and shared ways of seeing, fostering an ongoing dialogue between two cities connected through art.
Both works — “Book of Days” by Alvin and “Thinking Like an Island” by Camilla — will be featured in the exhibition at Shop–House by DECK as part of Singapore Art Week 2026.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 17 January to 28 February (Tuesday to Sunday, 1.00-7.00pm)
The opening event will take place on 17 January, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm — and you are warmly invited to join us!
