Singapore, 26 February 2026 – The Italian Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Edoardo Rixi, conducted a mission to Singapore on 25–26 February to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the port, logistics, and infrastructure sectors and to consolidate Italy’s position in the major global trade corridors.
A central moment of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between PSA International and the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, mobilizing around $1 billion in private investment for the modernization of the PSA Terminal in Genoa Prà. The project will increase the terminal’s capacity to 3 million TEUs per year, reinforcing Genoa and Italy as a strategic logistics hub in the Mediterranean.
During the mission, the Deputy Minister met with the Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport, Murali Pillai, confirming the excellent state of bilateral relations in the sector and the intention to further strengthen them within the framework of the Strategic Action Plan agreed by the two Prime Ministers on the sidelines of the G20. He emphasized the importance for “like-minded” countries to coordinate even in multilateral fora, particularly at the IMO.
“The meeting with Minister Pillai confirms a shared vision between Italy and Singapore for modern and strategic transport and infrastructure. Ports, logistics, and connectivity are key levers for the competitiveness of our economic systems and for addressing global challenges. The dialogue we have started aims to build concrete cooperation and medium-to-long-term industrial partnerships, promoting innovation, resilience, and the quality of our infrastructure,” said Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi.
The Deputy Minister also held discussions with the CEO of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Ang Wee Keong, on digitalization, decarbonization of the maritime sector, and coordination within the IMO, visiting the automated Tuas Port as a model of advanced innovation.
The mission included meetings with major Singaporean operators, including Keppel, SBS Transit, and Changi Airport Group, to explore investment and infrastructure cooperation opportunities in Italy and to highlight prospects for Italian companies in the transport, energy, and technological innovation sectors.
The visit concluded with a meeting with the Italian business community active in Singapore.
“Our dialogue with Singapore confirms the strength of our partnership and the concrete development opportunities for Italian companies in a strategic area such as Southeast Asia,” said the Italian Ambassador to Singapore, Dante Brandi.
