First Reggio Children exhibition “Mosaic of Marks” and REACH Conference in Singapore

Singapore recently hosted the first-ever “Mosaic of Marks, Words, MaterialExhibition, alongside an International Conference organized by Reggio Children and REACH (Reggio Emilia in Asia for Children).

The exhibition, available in both English and Mandarin, showcases research from Reggio Emilia’s infant-toddler centers and preschools, emphasizing how children’s expressions—through marks, words, and materials—are essential to their learning journey.

The Reggio Emilia Approach, which originated in the Italian region of Reggio Emilia, exemplifies the importance of creativity, exploration, and holistic development in early childhood education. This approach aligns closely with Singapore’s commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking while nurturing each child’s potential. During the exhibition’s inauguration on November 21, Italian Ambassador to Singapore Dante Brandi highlighted that Italy’s educational philosophies complement Singapore’s vision of education as a cornerstone for societal progress. The exhibition will be open to the public until December 20 at the REACH Centre of Excellence (6A Stevens Road, Singapore) and will subsequently travel to various cities in China—including Harbin, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Nanjing—before heading to Australia in 2025.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the international conference titled “In Dialogue with Reggio Emilia: Listening to Children’s Languages through the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Material” was held on November 22-23. Conducted in English, Mandarin, and Italian, the conference brought together esteemed experts from Reggio Children and municipal preschools and infant-toddler centers of Reggio Emilia. Educators from over 14 Asian countries participated, gaining insights into the Reggio Emilia Approach that encourages children to shape their learning through exploration, inquiry, and collaboration. Ms. Sun Xueling, Minister of State for Home Affairs and Social and Family Development, graced the conference as the Guest of Honour.
