The opening of the Italian Festival in Singapore took place today at Gardens by the Bay in the presence of the Guest of Honour, Minister Indranee Rajah, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance & Second Minister for National Development, in the Flower Dome filled with roses and among installations inspired by the traditional theatrical backdrops of the Italian Opera For the first time. It is the first time that an integrated promotional event such as the Italian Festival is taking place in Singapore: from mid-May to the end of June a large collection of events – from cultural to commercial, from scientific-technological to the investment sector – Embassy of Italy plans to repeat from now on every year in the same period (the list of events is available on the website www.italianfestival.sg)
This initiative by the Embassy of Italy was carried out in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), also involving the many Italian associations which are active in the City-State, together with our best-known brands, our companies, importers, distributors and of course the main players in Italian catering.
Large online retailers will also participate, various e-commerce platforms will participate in the Italian Festival with targeted promotions of Italian products.
After two years in which unfortunately it was not possible to meet together for our National Day, we decided to extend the period usually associated with these celebrations, by involving our resident Italian community as much as possible, enhancing their presence and creativity and their contribution to the economic, social and cultural life of this City-State. On the other hand, we wanted to bring the Italian Festival to iconic places in Singapore such as Gardens by the Bay, and then to cultural centres such as the Esplanade, to the network of national libraries, universities and schools, thus multiplying the participation by the Singaporean public, who already knows and appreciates Italy, but could discover much more.
Year after year, through the Italian Festival, our goal is to widen the awareness that the Singapore public has of Italy, to project an image not only linked to the excellence of our fashion and our food and wine, but also associated with the avant-garde position occupied by Italy today in numerous sectors of the industry, technology and scientific research.
