To celebrate the sommo poeta (great poet) Dante Alighieri, on Wednesday 31 January at Sala Italia, the Embassy of Italy in Singapore presented the movie ‘DANTE’ by Pupi Avati. A project that, with skill and sensitivity, narrates the life of Dante Alighieri, father of the Italian language.
The film takes us on a fascinating journey undertaken by Boccaccio, 39 years after the great poet’s death, in an attempt to meet Dante’s only surviving daughter. While offering an intimate glimpse into Dante’s life, this movie also underlines the importance of preserving our Italian cultural heritage so as to reach future generations.
The initiative is part of the wider cultural diplomacy efforts promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which is aimed at promoting Italian cultural heritage around the world and celebrating in the world the image of Dante Alighieri through the entire diplomatic-consular network and Italian Cultural Institutes.
Screenings of the film “DANTE” dedicated to their students were also held by APICS and Italian Language School in Singapore.
