Bandar Seri Begawan, 17 May 2025 – The Ambassador of Italy, Dante Brandi, presented his credentials to His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah, during a solemn ceremony held at the Istana Nurul Iman Royal Palace, in the presence of the highest state authorities.

While conveying greetings from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and reaffirming the importance that Italy attaches to the Indo-Pacific region, Ambassador Brandi expressed his hope for a further strengthening of bilateral relations between Italy and Brunei—two countries that share a common interest in an international order based on rules, free trade, and multilateralism.

He also confirmed Italy’s commitment to deepening relations between the European Union and ASEAN, the regional bloc of ten Southeast Asian nations, within which Brunei Darussalam serves as the coordinator for relations with the EU.

Particular attention was given to the discussion of bilateral and regional issues in the political, economic, academic, and interpersonal fields, addressed during Ambassador Brandi’s meetings with the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Erywan Yusof, with representatives of the Italian community, and with members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Brunei.
