The E.T.D. (Emergency Travel Document) is a temporary travel document valid only for the return trip to Italy, to the country of permanent residence abroad or, in exceptional cases, to a different destination. The E.T.D. is valid for 5 days from the date of issue. It can be issued by the Consular Authority only in case of theft or loss of the passport / identity card, if it is not possible to carry out the necessary investigation for the issue of a new passport before departure from the country.
The E.T.D. can also be issued to citizens of the EU member States, after obtaining formal authorization from a diplomatic-consular representation or from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country of origin.
Documentation required for issuing the E.T.D. for Italian / EU citizens in Singapore
To obtain the E.T.D. go to the Consulate bringing the following documentation with you:
- report of loss or theft of the passport, made to the Consulate pursuant to articles 46 and 47 and with the warnings referred to in art. 76 of the D.P.R. 445/2000;
- report of theft or loss of the passport or other travel document to the local police authorities;
- 2 photographs (identical, frontal, in color with white background, 35 x 40 mm format);
- travel document of the applicant;

The E.T.D. it has a cost of 1.55 euros and must be paid on site at the time of release.
Applying for an E.T.D. by Italian / EU citizens in Brunei
The Italian / EU citizen who resides in Brunei, in case of theft / loss of their passport, can contact the Italian Embassy in Singapore to apply for the E.T.D. The required documents are to be sent by a courier at the expenses of the applicant.
