What do we really know about ancient wine and its millennial journey in the Mediterranean area? Greco-Roman literature and archaeology can provide evidence of ancient wine varietals and wine trade. New technology in genetics may help to identify the DNA signatures associated to specific known ancient cultivars. All these information may be combined and merged in a digital humanities open access platform with GIS mapping.
