Exciting insights into Italy’s vibrant entrepreneurial landscape and its attractiveness for Asian investors take center stage in the inaugural event of the “Made in Italy, Shaping the World” series at the Italian Embassy in Singapore.

Manfredi Catella, CEO of COIMA, a company specializing in impactful urban regeneration projects, including the renowned Porta Nuova in Milan, shared the sustainable approach driving COIMA’s endeavors over the past fifty years. In a thought-provoking conversation with Katrina Nicholas, Bloomberg Singapore’s Deputy Managing Editor of the Global Business Team, Catella delved into the promising prospects stemming from ongoing real estate developments.

Ambassador Dante Brandi, inaugurating the event, stressed that innovation, a strong focus on sustainability and community inclusion are the factors that – along with solid prospects for economic returns – have prompted a major Singaporean sovereign wealth fund to invest 200 million euros in the urban regeneration funds currently managed by COIMA. This is a significant nod not just to COIMA and Milan but to Italy as a whole, as a market capable of attracting financial capital also from Asia.

The conversation spanned from the real estate market features in Asia, Europe and the US, up to the headwinds of geopolitical tensions and uncertainties for businesses in general at a global level. Against this backdrop, opportunities are still there, including in Italy and the eurozone, which is now more homogeneous and predictable in terms of opportunities and risks. Milan and Italy are firmly on the radar of investors also thanks to developments such as Porta Nuova, while opportunities arise in other Italian cities such as Rome. Cities and urbanization dynamics are more relevant than ever: this affects market prices of course, but it also stimulates ingenuity for solutions able to strike the right balance between development, regeneration, sustainability, affordability and mobility. Sustainability and ESG, in particular, is of course much about technicalities and metrics, but most importantly, it is a core business culture all market players must embrace.

The event is set to be fully broadcasted on Bloomberg’s investor and analyst platform and marks the beginning of a compelling series. The Embassy, in its commitment to diplomacy for growth in Singapore, plans to showcase Italian managers and entrepreneurs in shipping, pharmaceuticals, and finance in upcoming months.
