Requirements
You can apply at this Embassy only if you are a permanent legal resident in Singapore.
The applicant must prove that he/she is a descendant of an Italian ancestor without interruption in the transmission of the citizenship from one generation to the next.

Document requirements
- extract of the birth certificate of the Italian ancestor who first emigrated abroad, issued by the Italian municipality where he/she was born;
- birth certificates, with a declaration of conformity of the translation in Italian language, of all his/her descendants in a straight line, including that of the person applying for the recognition of Italian citizenship;
- marriage certificate of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad, accompanied, if it took place abroad, with the declaration of conformity of the translation in Italian language;
- marriage certificates of his/her descendants, in a straight line, including that of the parents of the person claiming possession of Italian citizenship, with the declaration of conformity of the translation into Italian;
- death certificate of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad, accompanied, if it took place abroad, with the declaration of conformity of the translation in Italian language;
- death certificates of his/her descendants (if applicable), in a straight line, including that of the parents of the person claiming possession of Italian citizenship, with the declaration of conformity of the translation into Italian;
- certificate issued by the authorities in charge of the foreign country of emigration, with a declaration of conformity of the translation in Italian language, stating that the Italian ancestor did not acquire the citizenship of the foreign country of emigration prior to the birth of his/her direct descendant;
- applicant’s stay permit in Singapore (Employment Pass, Long Term visit Pass etc.);
- application for the recognition of Italian citizenship by descent (iure sanguinis).
Certificates issued by the foreign authorities must be provided with legalization (*), except in cases where this is not explicitly provided for by bilateral or multilateral agreements ratified by Italy. The foreign documents must also be accompanied by the declaration of conformity of the translation in Italian language.

The legalization takes place by affixing an “Apostille” by the authority of the issuing country.
Documents issued by countries with which no agreements are in force: The legalization of the document must take place at the Italian Consulate in charge for the territory where the document was issued.
At this Embassy
The Applicant must submit all required documents.
As of July 8th, 2014 all applications for the recognition of the Italian citizenship Jure Sanguinis are subject to a Consular fee of € 300.
The consular fee is not refundable, regardless of the outcome of the application.
Conclusion of the Procedure
The processing time of the applications for recognition of Italian citizenship cannot be estimated at the time of submitting the application as it depends on checks and assessments to be carried out in other countries.
