Singapore, 27 February 2026 – A delegation from the Politecnico di Milano, led by Rector Prof. Donatella Sciuto and composed of Prof. Gabriele Masera and Prof. Cristiana Bolchini, carried out an institutional mission to Singapore on 26 and 27 February to consolidate and further develop academic and scientific collaborations with the country’s leading universities.
During the visit, the delegation met with the leadership of the National University of Singapore, the Singapore University of Technology and Design, and Nanyang Technological University, exploring opportunities for cooperation in engineering, architecture, design, artificial intelligence, and advanced robotics.
In particular, discussions with the National University of Singapore focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two institutions, with particular attention to joint research projects, doctoral programs, and student and researcher mobility. The delegation also visited centers of excellence – including the School of Computing, the NUS AI Institute, the Department of Architecture, and the Advanced Robotics Centre – exploring potential synergies in AI, emerging technologies, sustainable design, and interdisciplinary innovation.
“The mission to Singapore confirms the international dimension of the Politecnico di Milano, Italy’s leading technical university, and further strengthens the ties between the two countries. Singapore hosts world-class universities with which we intend to continue collaborating to build an even stronger relationship,” commented Donatella Sciuto, Rector of the Politecnico di Milano. “Excellence in education, international mobility, cutting-edge research – these are the foundations upon which to establish alliances that look to the future and address new technological, economic, and social challenges on a global scale. I also wish to sincerely thank the Ambassador and the diplomatic corps, which sees the university as a key interlocutor.”
The mission also included an institutional meeting with the Italian business and scientific community active in Singapore, held at the residence of the Italian Ambassador, Dante Brandi, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Edoardo Rixi. The evening was also attended by a large group of Politecnico di Milano alumni, highlighting the strong connection between the University and its graduates in Southeast Asia and the strategic value of academic diplomacy in the Italy–Singapore relationship.
“University cooperation is one of the most qualified and forward-looking dimensions of the relationship between Italy and Singapore. The dialogue between the Politecnico di Milano and Singapore’s leading universities strengthens a stable bridge between our research and innovation systems, generating opportunities for young people and creating value for both countries,” emphasized Ambassador Dante Brandi.
