Singapore, 2 June 2026
The 80th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic represents a milestone of particular significance in the country’s history and its democratic evolution.
On 2 June 1946, Italy chose through a universal suffrage referendum to establish a new form of State, opening a new era based on civic participation, reconstruction, and institutional progress. On that same occasion, Italian women voted at the national level for the first time, marking a fundamental turning point in the country’s democratic journey.
From that historic choice emerged the principles that still define the identity of the Republic today: the recognition of human dignity, the protection of fundamental freedoms, equality among citizens, and the central role of solidarity as a cornerstone of democratic life. Eighty years later, these values continue to guide public action and Italian society, both within and beyond national borders, inspiring Italy’s commitment to dialogue between States, multilateralism, and international cooperation.
In this spirit, a special thought goes to Italian communities abroad, who contribute significantly to the dissemination of Italian culture, creativity, and expertise around the world, strengthening ties with host countries and with the homeland.
The Embassy of Italy in Singapore renews its commitment to Italian citizens residing in the country and to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Italy and Singapore, based on cooperation, trust, and constant dialogue, and shares the videomessage of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Antonio Tajani, addressed to Italians around the world on the occasion of Republic Day.
Happy Republic Day.
