Italian authors Paolo Giordano and Elisabetta Dami at Singapore Writers Festival 2024

The Embassy of Italy in Singapore celebrates the International Week of the Italian Language with the participation in Singapore Writers Festival 2024 of two prominent figures of contemporary Italian literature: Paolo Giordano, renowned for his international bestseller “The Solitude of Prime Numbers,” and Elisabetta Dami, the beloved creator of the children’s book character Geronimo Stilton.

While he was obtaining his PhD in theoretical physics, Paolo Giordano published his first novel, The Solitude of Prime Numbers (2008), which later won the Premio Strega, Italy’s most prestigious literary prize.

Born in Turin in 1982, he combines his scientific background with literary talent, exploring themes of isolation and human connection. Giordano’s works often reflect on the complexities of modern life, intertwining personal narratives with broader societal issues. His writing gathered international recognition, establishing him as a significant voice in contemporary literature.

Join a conversation on “Longings, Loss and Loneliness” featuring Helen Macdonald, Paolo Giordano and Simone Heng.

Helen is the author of H is for Hawk, a meditation on coming to terms with the grief over their father’s death through the training of a goshawk, while Paolo (author of Tasmania) and Simone (Let’s Talk About Loneliness) have written about emotional trauma and human connections in our everyday lives and through crises such as the pandemic. They will talk about maintaining meaningful relationships, how nature and writing can help overcome grief and other anxieties of life.
