Singapore citizens do not need a visa for their short stay in Italy (up to 90 days).

The Embassy of Italy in Singapore handles applications for Schengen visa to Italy and Malta.

A Schengen visa is issued for the purpose of a short stay (less than 90 days) in Italy and all Schengen Countries (Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta,  the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland).

The Schengen Visa does not give the holder the right to reside or work in Italy or in any other Schengen country.

The issue of Schengen visas is discretionary and is based on examination/evaluation of each individual case, including purpose of visit and intention to return to country of residence.

Holders of a Schengen visa are still subject to immigration control and are not guaranteed entry into any of the Schengen countries.

According to Schengen Visa Code all decisions must be given within 15 calendar days, eventually extendible to 30 days. For national (long term) visas the processing time can  require up to 30 days for family reunion and salaried work, and up to 120 days for self-employment work.

Citizens of some countries are subject to consultation procedure which might extend processing time.
