Italian Research Day in the World is celebrated every year on 22 April, marking the anniversary of the birth of Rita Levi-Montalcini, recipient of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The Embassy of Italy in Singapore promotes the value of Italian research abroad through initiatives that highlight the contribution of the Italian scientific community in the country. The work of the network of Scientific Attachés forms part of this effort, facilitating connections between institutions, universities, and Italian researchers active in Singapore.

Today, Singapore represents a meeting point for research, technology, and international cooperation, attracting talent, investment, and expertise from around the world. In this environment, the Italian scientific community actively contributes to the development of new knowledge and solutions in strategic fields for the future, strengthening scientific and technological dialogue between Italy and Singapore.

Conducted by the Scientific Attaché of the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, Nicola Bianchi, the interviews produced for the 2026 edition of Italian Research Day in the World offer insight into professional trajectories, the challenges of contemporary research, and the role of international environments in shaping increasingly interdisciplinary and global scientific careers.

Featured in the series are:

  • Enrico Petretto, Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and expert in computational genomics and precision medicine. (watch the interview)
  • Viola Cabrini, researcher at the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE), Nanyang Technological University, and expert in environmental microbiology. (watch the interview)
  • Vincenzo Sorrentino, Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and expert in metabolism, nutrition, and ageing. (watch the interview)
  • Giulia Adriani, Principal Scientist at A*STAR Skin Research Labs and expert in the development of organ-on-a-chip systems and advanced human tissue models. (watch the interview)
